Florida tax-free weekend Aug. 13-15

salebag If you haven’t bought all the school clothes and supplies your kids need yet – or if you don’t have any kids but need some clothes and office supplies of your own – this may be the weekend to shop.

Florida’s sales tax holiday is back this year, in a shortened version. Qualifying items will be free of state and local sales tax Friday, Aug. 13, through Sunday, Aug. 15.

Items of clothing that cost less than $50 and school supplies that cost less than $10 are covered. But check the list (scroll to the bottom of the document) to see exactly what qualifies. Scissors will be exempt from tax this weekend, but staples will not. Purses are exempt, but briefcases are not.

The Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel and Orlando Sentinel have a Q&A with more details.
