Here is this weekend’s selection of free and cheap events:
* Safer Kids And Homes will do free car seat safety checks 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13, in participation with Britax, a car-seat maker. Safer Kids And Homes is at 8843 SW 132nd St.
* Belafonte Tacolcy Center, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden and the Miami Workers Center are sponsoring a free “Community Go-Green Festival” 10 am. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at the Tacolcy Center, 6161 NW Ninth Ave., Miami. Activities will include arts and crafts, games, planting activities, workshops and gardening demonstrations, exhibits by earth-friendly organizations and vendors, and two community panel discussions on urban gardening and green jobs. Food and entertainment.
* The Miami Design Preservation League will sponsor a free showing of the film My Man Godfrey at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 13, at the Miami Beach Regional Library, 227 22 St.
* The Coral Reef Branch Library, 9211 Coral Reef Drive, will present a free film, Joebell and America, adapted from a short story by Trinidadian-born author and playwright Earl Lovelace, at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13. Steel band and Caribbean food also on the agenda.
* The Coral Gables Library , 3443 Segovia, will put on a free “tea party” with Irish music by fiddler James Kelly at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 13, for Bloomsday, celebrating the publication of James Joyce’s Ulysses . For those who keep track, Bloomsday is actually June 16, and John Martin’s and Books and Books in Coral Gables will be celebrating on Tuesday, June 16.
* Authors and professional organizers Sandra Felton and Marsha Sims will offer a free time management class from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at Save-the-Earth Eco Center, 12399 W. Dixie Highway, North Miami. The event is to celebrate the release of their new book, Organizing Your Day.
And, don’t forget Saturday’s Wynwood and Design District art walks and the last weekend of Coral Gables Restaurant Week.
