Thanks for being part of the Miami FL on the Cheap community. Share your cheap tips with us at miami27@miamiflonthecheap.comSouth Florida-based artist Gerry Stecca is busy piecing together an unconventional sculpture. To showcase his quirky “tree-wrap” project, his fans are inviting the public to a free reception.
The subject of the art piece — a lovely live banyan tree — stands in a perfect location for a party. It’s in the heart of the outdoor patio bar at Big Fish, 55 SW Miami Avenue Road, Miami.
The champagne reception is 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 31. For information, e-mail Omar at knot55info@gmail.com.
To pique your interest in Stecca’s sculpture, we’ll let you know it involves a fresh use for an old-fashioned, low-tech item: 7,000 wooden clothespins to temporarily drape the tree. He’s been fashioning sculptures from clothespins for about six years. He links them together using wire to create flexible sheets. His fascination with the medium was launched when he used clothespins to make a dress for a pal who was attending an exotic theme party.
