This is National Pet Week, May 3-9, though if you have cats or dogs you know that they consider every week National Pet Week.
Miami-Dade Animal Services and members of the South Florida Veterinary Medical Association are offering discounts on microchips for pets this week.
The press releases don’t say how much they will charge, but Dr. Patty Khuly, a blogger and the Miami Herald’s vet columnist, reports that most vets will charge $25 per animal, about half the normal price of $40 to $50.
Miami Dade Animal Services also is doing low-cost microchips at the shelter, 7401 NW 74 St. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m .Saturday and Sunday. A nice woman who answered the phone there says microchips are $10 each, and the county does them for that price all the time. No appointment necessary.
