The famous Great Grove Bed Race is back this year with a weekend full of free activities for the family.
The weekend kicks off with a Pajama Pub Crawl on Saturday, Sept. 4 in Coconut Grove. Pajama-garbed participants donate $25 to charity and receive 10 free drink coupons for 10 different bars in Coconut Grove.
The main event takes place on Sunday, Sept. 5, when tricked-out beds are raced down an 1/8 mile thoroughfare in Coconut Grove, with prizes for speed and best decor. The event is free and open to the public. It takes place near the corner of Commodore & Grand Ave., in Coconut Grove.
There are also some special deals associated with the event: There’s a $5 breakfast special at The Grove Spot, 3324 Virginia Street, and two-for-one breakfast at Mayfair Hotel and Spa, 3000 Florida Avenue.
Visit museums free this weekend

It’s the first weekend of the month, and that means Bank of America customers can visit museums free through the bank’s Museums On Us program. Just show your Bank of America credit or debit card Saturday or Sunday and you will get free admission to more than 120 museums and attractions in cities across the United States.
In Miami-Dade, you can use your card for free admission to the Miami Art Museum, Miami Children’s Museum, Miami Science Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami and the Bass Museum of Art in Miami Beach.
In Broward County, you’ll find deals for free admission to the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Discovery and Science ,the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale plus Young At Art Children’s Museum in Davie.
In Palm Beach County, you can make a free visit to the South Florida Science Museum in West Palm Beach.
You can also get free visits to museums in the Jacksonville and Tampa Bay areas.

Well, there’s a catch: You’ll need to buy $30 worth of select Procter & Gamble products to get the freebie. You can find the products in the store flier.

Free 1st Saturday at railroad museum

The Gold Coast Railroad Museum offers free admission the first Saturday of each month.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum includes:
- Locomotives
- Model train building
- Passengers cars
- The Silver Crescent
- Rides offered for a fee.

Lincoln Road, Grove art walks

Two free neighborhood art walks will be Saturday, Sept. 4.
The Coconut Grove Art Stroll is at the Promenade at Mayfair, 2911 Grand Ave., 7 to 11 p.m. The event includes art, food, drink, live music and dance performances, and painting lessons for children.
The Lincoln Road Art Walk is is 7 to 10 p.m. at the locations of Art Center South Florida on Lincoln Road in South Beach.

Share a cheap tip and win a DVD

It’s time for another contest!
We have several copies of the DVD of Season 1 of the NBC TV series “Parenthood” to give away. This DVD was just released today, Aug. 31.
Here’s the description of the show:
Parenthood introduces us to the very large, very colorful and imperfect Braverman family. Single mother Sarah and her two children Amber and Drew moving back home with her parents Zeek and Camille. Sarah’s sister and complete antithesis, Julia, is a successful corporate attorney trying to juggle work and motherhood, alongside her stay-at-home husband, Joel. Executive producers are Ron Howard and Ron Grazer.

Price cut for Summer Savings Pass

Miami Seaquarium, Wannado City, Lion Country Safari and Miami MetroZoo have dropped the price of the Summer Savings Pass to $44.95.
With the pass, you get unlimited visits to the Seaquarium, the zoo and Lion Country Safari, through Sept. 30, plus one visit to Wannado City.
If you already have an annual pass to one of these attractions, you can get the Summer Savings Pass for $19.95, a $10 drop in price since the beginning of the summer.

Two free arts parties on Wednesday

There are two art-themed events going on this Wednesday, Sept. 1, in Miami, a few blocks away from each other. Both are worth checking out. And, they’re both free.
First up is the Mystery Dates Kickoff Party, happening at Area 31, 270 Biscayne Blvd. It’s hosted by the Museum of Contemporary Art and is a promo event for MOCA Shakers’ Mystery Dates fundraiser in October. Tickets to Mystery Dates will be on sale at the kickoff pary, which runs from 7 to 9 p.m., and is free. There will be free Grey Goose cocktails. RSVP for entry by emailing ilondji@mocanomi.org.
After (or before) the party, head to the River of Art Showcase and Party, at Bleu Moon Resto-Lounge, 1717 N. Bayshore Drive (inside the Doubletree Grand hotel). It’s a celebration and fundraiser with both musical and visual art. There’s no cover and if you text BLEUMOON to 41513, you’ll get a free drink. The party kicks off at 6:30 p.m., and there will be performances by musical artist by Macarldie, visual artists Greg Pitts and Pauline Bonilla and dance artist Myka.

Free kids’ workshop at Home Depot

On the first Saturday of the month, The Home Depot hosts a free kids workshop from 9 a.m. to noon for children 5 to 12.
The project for Saturday, Sept. 4, is a football display stand. Kids also will receive an orange apron and an achievement pin.
